Forking of D&D 3.5

Remember the discussion about Pathfinder and The Book of Experimental Might? How about this:

Monte Cook Joins the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game™ Team

Co-creator of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons® to act as Rules Consultant

Paizo Publishing®, LLC today announced that Monte Cook, the co-creator of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons and author of the 3.5 PHB and DMG as well as the Ptolus™ campaign setting and the recent Book of Experimental Might™, has joined the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game team as a Rules Consultant.

"This is going to be a lot of fun," said Monte Cook. "Pathfinder is a fresh spin on a rules system that I love and the guys at Paizo are great to work with. They produce nothing but the highest quality products."

  1. It will be interesting to see if they are just using him as a glorified proofreader, or if they plan on incorporating some of his ideas, and how many.

As I mentioned in my blog, if I were to run D&D right now it would be with Monte's Book of Experimental Might and the Pathfinder skill system.

  2. It is interesting. For a guy retired from the game industry, he sure pops up a lot in discussions. Not that I'm complaining, fan boy that I am.

Also, as an experiment, I bought a LULU printed copy of Book of Experimental Might and have had it displayed in the new arrivals section of our RPGs.

Not only have I not sold it, but I haven't found anyone willing to have a discussion about it. Except Allen, who already owns a PDF copy.

There has also been ZERO interest in Pathfinder as a system. A few folks have downloaded and have given it a resounding yawn. Our sales of the 3.5 Pathfinder adventures have actually increased, which is a bit odd, but might be due to the lack of anything new for D&D 3.5 combined with the high quality of the product.
