Steady Breathing
I originally wanted to title the post "holding my breath," since this is the last day of preparation before the holiday rush. After today, all the stocking up, decorating, marketing, and training will be put to the test. We'll also put to the test theories and common wisdom of what it means to run a game store in a recession. The planning and organizing is done, we just need to execute well, or watch the results of past executions (sounds ominous). It all hinges on the hopes that we're seeing something resembling normal economic activity and not some once in a century event. October was a national crisis for retailers, not just a slowdown. Every retailer dreads a recession, but as I was explaining to one my business partners the other night, I can handle a recession, I can plan for a recession, I just want a normal recession.
