Magic ReleaseTournament & 40K

Yesterday we had our best turnout yet for a Magic release tournament, with 36 players. We had a few technical hiccups, due to not having enough DCI cards, but it seemed to go pretty smoothly. I'm thinking we'll need to acquire at least one additional folding table if we anticipate growing this any further. 36 people used all available table space, at least when seated comfortably.

Today I spent my free time more thoroughly reading the Imperial Guard codex and visiting fan websites, where they break down the rules for analysis. The two most useful ones so far are Warmongerclub and Lexicanum. I realized early on that my selection of doctrines was off. I had neglected to subtract the two weapons groups (roughriders and heavy weapons). Removing this required heavily tweaking the army list.

That third basilisk didn't get assembled today but I kind of worked on it by buying a camo netting kit from Antenociti's Workshop in the UK. The kit, some leaf foliage and shipping came out to $20, but it should be enough to add camo netting to all three basilisks and the three sentinels I need to make.

About those sentinels.... All my big ideas about making technicals our of model pick up trucks is a bust. I can't find the right scale models, and I'm starting to doubt they exist. Battlefield Evolution tried to make their own, and they looked pretty bad, so I have doubts I'll be able to do any better. Also, the idea for roughriders on camels started with the premise that roughriders were available, which they're not. They're only available from the UK Games Workshop website, and with shipping they're $16/each. I'm not about to spend $16 on a donor model, and then spend more money trying to make them into camel riders.

Below is the new new army list. Note the loss of mortars (they are apparently beyond suck), addition of a second squad of roughriders, a more effective fire support squad, removal of the priest, and basilisks that stat out how they look (I had the extra points).
